Wexford

Jun 01 2019

Preparations for the 2019 Wexford Irish Rally,  are well underway. It is almost a year until the actual event, but the sooner we have expressions of interest, the easier it will be to tailor the itinerary to the requirements of the party. Individuals will be responsible for organising their own travel arrangements to the Brandon House Hotel, situated in New Ross, County Wexford, either from Haverfordwest or Fishguard to Rosslare, or from Holyhead to Dublin. For Club members wishing to leave their modern cars and trailers on the mainland, arrangements have been made close to the ferry terminal at Fishguard. The hotel is a perfect place from which to explore an area from Kilkenny in the north to Waterford and Kilmore further south. Pencilled into the itinerary at the moment are visits to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park & Arboretum, set in 250 hectares just south of our hotel, the Hook Lighthouse, built 800 years ago and the oldest operational lighthouse in the world, Loftus Hall, Ireland’s most haunted house, but only for the intrepid, visits to  the Kiltrea pottery, and, of course, Waterford Crystal, and the best pint of Guinness is never too far away.

As many of you know, the roads outside Irish towns are quiet, with plenty of scenery to admire, but there are hills to consider. On a recent reconnaissance, Tom and Heather Cook felt that the terrain was possibly more suitable for twin or four cylinder cars, although a well-prepared 8hp could work well too. Do bear in mind that the Club welcomes members with any of their cars. For more information or to book a place, contact Tom Cook on 07831 116810.
