On 15 October 1898, Louis Renault paid for the motor he chose to test his système Louis Renault, so on Sunday 15 October 2023, the Louis Renault Society is encouraging Renault enthusiasts to mark the occasion with a toast to Louis Renault - who became the greatest French industrialist of his time.
And as the widely acclaimed foundation stone of the Renault Empire is the petite automobile powered by the 1 ¾ hp air cooled de Dion Bouton motor purchased on 15 October 1898, de Dion Bouton enthusiasts also have an opportunity to celebrate the occasion with a toast to de Dion Bouton – the greatest automobile manufacturer of the 19th century.
In coming months Renault will be only the 2nd automobile manufacturer to celebrate 125 years as a standalone marque. The Society hopes dedicated Renault & de Dion Bouton enthusiasts will join in the celebration to mark this significant date that until recently had been overlooked.
